It’s been a tough few weeks for Geert Wilders. Just a few weeks later, Wilders was controversially denied entry into Britain after the British Home Office declared that his views on Islam “would threaten community harmony and therefore public security in the United Kingdom.”

Set against the near-daily threats on his life, the 24-hour security detail, and the restrictions on travel that have been Wilders’ lot since he first emerged as an outspoken critic of extremist Islam in 2004, these latest setbacks might have tested even the most determined public crusader. Engaging Muslim Communities Around World
Ms. Dalia Mogahed, executive director of the Gallup Center for Muslim studies and co-author of Who Speaks for Islam? [They do quite well on their own, seems to me. I would really like to know Who Speaks for America?] has been asked to testify before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee as they hold a hearing on February 26, 2009 titled "Engaging with Muslim Communities around the World." The hearing will discuss how the perceptions of the United States are shaped abroad, explore possible new strategies of diplomacy, and look for where common ground exists with the broader Muslim world that advances mutual interests and builds on shared values . . .

Well, see, I don’t see where "shared values" exist. This is an exercise in kitman for them, and fool-hardy wishful hoping on our side. If you study Islam, you find it’s pretty clear that Muslims are not to take infidels as friends, that no infidel is ever to be equal to a Muslim, that Jews and Christians are to be despised. . . I dunno, I just don’t see any shared values on their part—they want nothing we have or believe in.

A task force of Middle East experts is urging the Obama administration to work within Muslim communities in the United States to counter extremism and prevent Islamic militant groups from gathering new recruits. . . .

Militants Drew Recruit in U.S., F.B.I. Says
The F.B.I. director, Robert S. Mueller III, said Monday that a Somali-American man who was one of several suicide bombers in a terrorist attack last October in Somalia had apparently been indoctrinated into his extremist beliefs while living in the United States.

“It appears that this individual was radicalized in his hometown in Minnesota,” Mr. Mueller said, speaking at a meeting of the Council on Foreign Relations. Minneapolis claims the country’s largest Somali population.

FBI Director Warns of Terror Attacks on U.S. Cities
FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III today warned that [Islamic!] extremists "with large agendas and little money can use rudimentary weapons" to sow terror, raising the specter that recent attacks in Mumbai that killed 170 people last year could embolden terrorists seeking to attack U.S. cities.

Elections for vacant seats in the House of Delegates [in Virginia] are always interesting, but the Democratic nomination fight in the 35th District looks like it'll be interesting indeed.

Omeish, the president of the Muslim American Society at the time, came into the political limelight nearly two years ago after he was appointed to the Commission on Immigration by Democratic Gov. Tim Kaine. The appointment didn't sit well with Del. Todd Gilbert, R-Woodstock, a fellow member of the commission. The society was too closely connected the Muslim Brotherhood, the Egyptian group that gave rise to Hamas, for his taste. Gilbert wrote to Kaine and asked him to reconsider the appointment.

A spokesman for the governor at the time dismissed Gilbert's concerns as "innuendo, moving dangerously close to slander," and challenged Gilbert to offer proof. Omeish resigned less than a day later, after online videos came to light in which Omeish accused Israel of genocide against Palestinians and exhorted Muslims to "the jihad way."

Omeish later defended both the Muslim American Society and his comments after his resignation, saying in a press release that MAS "is an American organization, completely transparent and above-board, and committed to the civic engagement of Muslims for the betterment of all of American society." His call to jihad "was in the context of his public criticism of the Lebanon invasion and the oppression of Palestinians" and was not a call for violence.

NEW YORK – A Black September terrorist who served only about half his 30-year sentence for planting three car bombs in New York City in 1973 was released Thursday into the custody of immigration officials to be deported.

Khalid Al-Jawary, 63, was released from the Supermax maximum-security prison in Florence, Colo., said Carl Rusnok, a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman. Rusnok said a federal immigration judge had signed a deportation order for Al-Jawary. Al-Jawary's release date was set for Thursday after he was credited with time served before his sentencing and good behavior.

2 W.Pa. students told to remove Muslim scarves
Two Muslim suburban Pittsburgh students say they were told to remove their scarves or go home because the scarves were disruptive.

The Gateway High School seniors, 18-year-old Mohammad Al-Abbasi and 17-year-old Ahmad Al-Sadr, chose to go home Tuesday. They say the scarves, also called kaffiyehs, show their Middle Eastern heritage and that they've long worn them. But Al-Abbasi says he believes some students and parents recently complained that the kaffiyehs are symbols of hate and terrorism. [Well, duh. ---DOB]

Tuesday's order also comes about a week after Al-Abbasi was told to remove a T-shirt bearing an anti-Israeli sentiment. Al-Abbasi admits he shouldn't have worn it. [Why not, I wonder? Because it gave credence to the boy's real position vis a vis hate and terrorism?]

He reportedly said his initial ban on the scarves was an attempt to "diffuse tension" between Jewish and Muslim students. The Muslim students say they suffered verbal abuse after another student at the school published a commentary falsely [according to whom?] claiming the scarves are "hate" clothing.

For liberals, the issue is straightforward. If routine mockery of Christianity and abuse of its symbols, both in the U.S. and Europe, is protected speech, why shouldn't the same standard apply to the mockery of Islam? And if the difference in these cases is that mockery of Islam has the tendency to lead to riots, death threats and murder, should committed Christians now seek a kind of parity with Islamists by resorting to violent tactics to express their sense of religious injury?

The notion that liberals can have it both ways -- champions of free speech on the one hand; defenders of multiculturalism's assorted sensitivities on the other -- was always intellectually flimsy. If liberals now want to speak for the "right" of this or that group not to be offended, the least they can do is stop calling themselves "liberals." . . .

WASHINGTON – A federal appeals court on Wednesday ruled that 17 Turkic Muslims cleared for release from Guantanamo Bay must stay at the prison camp, raising the stakes for an Obama administration that has pledged to quickly close the facility and free those who have not been charged.

Our responsibility is based on our nation and our leaders’ accountability in defending our inalienable human rights of equality and liberty - which demands that we reject all supremacism, including Islamic supremacism. Such accountability on human rights also requires that we challenge those in denial on this threat who seek our surrender to Islamic supremacism abroad and at home. Failure to defy Islamic supremacism will not only cost us our freedoms - it will also cost us our identity, as those who appease and support such supremacism will seek to use our nation’s influence and power as a weapon against freedom - as we have recently seen in other nations. To effectively defy Islamic supremacism, we must use our existing consensus in equality and liberty as a tool to ensure that Islamic supremacism is treated like any other supremacist ideology that would seek to threaten our freedoms. We know that outrage against supremacism is not enough; we are responsible to act to defy such supremacist ideologies that threaten our freedoms and take a public stand against them. . . .

Muslim women "face crisis over violence"
MUSLIM women around the world are facing a "growing crisis" as Islamic governments fail to honour commitments to end inequality and violence against them, a senior UN official has warned.

Yakin Erturk, the UN's rapporteur on violence against women, said that women must demand their governments carry out pledges to grant equal rights and ensure their safety . . .
