Dorrie's Picks, 3/3/09

And all over the world, fanatical Muslims — some terrorists, others just enraged citizens like Hassan [just “enraged citizens like Hassan”? Bill, why did you do this segment if that’s your opinion of Hassan’s reason?]— are beheading people. The United Nations estimates that 5,000 women may have been murdered by Muslim fanatics [and there again, no real understanding of his motivation], some by getting their heads chopped off.

With us now, Dr. Dawn Perlmutter, a ritual murder expert who has been studying the situation: First of all, these are honor killings? This Buffalo, New York, thing where a Muslim man is insulted by the woman. She commits adultery. She divorces, whatever. He has the right to kill her. Is this widely accepted in the Muslim world? You know, do moderate Muslims [and who was the last “moderate Muslim you met?] believe this?

Dr. Dawn Perlmutter, Ritual Murder Expert: Absolutely. [Well, there you go, Bill, an unexpectedly unequivocal correct answer.]

OC Muslims say FBI surveillance has a chilling effect
. . . "It gives you a little bit of apprehension about who you trust," the elder Turbi said. "Makes you think twice about what you say; what if people misunderstand you?"

Well, I wonder, Mr. Turbi, don’t you think maybe the reason the FBI is there is because of behavior displayed by Muslims in this country? Perhaps if you all weren’t quite so deceptive, you wouldn’t have this problem. Mr. Turbi, start a movement. Call it, Get Jihad Out of Islam.

CU Muslim Students' Association hosting Islam Awareness Week
The University of Colorado's Muslim Students' Association this week hosts a series of campus events that its members hope will cast Islamic faith and culture in a more accurate and positive light.

CU's Islam Awareness Week opens tonight with a keynote address entitled "Deconstructing Islamophobia" by New York Times best-selling author Reza Aslan.

Well, here’s a plan that would maybe deconstruct Islamophobia a lot faster and better: http://www.jihadwatch.org/archives/017943.php "Help me, Doc, I'm suffering from Islamophobia!"

Wilders' Freedom Party Leads Polls
According to a recent opinion poll, if parliamentary elections were held today, the Freedom Party (PVV) headed by right-wing populist leader Geert Wilders would become the largest party in the Netherlands.

It would win 27 seats in the 150-seat parliament, as opposed to the nine it currently has. The Christian Democrats - the largest party in the governing coalition - would win only 26 seats.

So let us hope the Republicans do as well in the U.S. in 2010.

Was CPAC an Epic Fail[ure]?
. . . That the conservative movement has slid into complete irrelevancy was demonstrated by the absence of any ideas — nay, any discussion whatsoever — of several of the most pressing political issues of our day. As fellow blogger Pamela Geller of Atlas Shrugged observed, there was not a single panel on the War on Terror, the growing threats to free speech, or the cultural jihad underway in the West.

What should have been one of the most important events of this year’s CPAC, the appearance by Dutch parliamentarian and anti-jihad activist Geert Wilders, was relegated to the opposite side of the hotel, divorced from all of the other conference proceedings. . . .

New Islamic mortgages now available in Minnesota
The program is targeted at low-to-moderate income [Muslim!] families. Qualified applicants have to complete first-time home buyer education classes. The goal is to help Muslim home buyers build wealth and reap the benefits of home ownership.

But not assimilation, I imagine.

Poll Finds U.S. Muslims Thriving, but Not Content
. . . “They are the only religious community without a majority race.” . . .

Wow, this just blew out the old “You’re a racist” scream, didn’t it? Ho, ho, what will they start calling the anti-jihad crowd now, do you suppose?

International Islamic organization slams Israeli program on Muhammad and calls again for free speech restrictions
The feelings of Muslims throughout the Muslim world have been hurt [ahh, I am so sorry to hear that] by the unceasing and malignant campaign against Islam and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The campaign has shamelessly targeted all sacred beliefs and symbols, persistently slandering Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and disparaging a tolerant religion [?!!!] "embraced" [I suspect that’s more in the eye of the beholder than fact] by more than a billion and a half people. . . .

Iran wants apology from Hollywood team
"We will believe (US President Barack) Obama's policy of change when we see change in Hollywood, too, and if Hollywood wants to correct its behaviour towards Iranian people and Islamic culture then they have to officially apologise," . . .
